Artist Statement
Artistic expression has always been a way for me to explore the world around me and my place in it. My pursuit of a formal education has been fueled by the desire to hone my artistic abilities and expand my perspectives about the possibilities of art. As a student, my work has explored ideas of identity, transformation, continuity, perception, memory, and biomimicry expressed through many mediums including fiber, metal, printing, painting, and sculpture. My passion lies in painting as I’ve found it the most personally appropriate form of expression. Currently in my painting practice I am exploring the concept of reality as it relates to sensory input and the grounding of perception in biological processes as well as the resulting implications to human experience. As I continue to pursue my artistic practice, I intend for art to act as a vehicle for investigation of myself and the ideas that interest me with the hope that it will continue to open the lens through which I view the world. As a future art educator, I hope to facilitate artistic exploration in children and young adults with the hopes that they too can experience the empowering effects of creating tangible works of art from their ideas.
