Who I am ON the inside
Lesson Relevance:
Students in this class have been introduced to painting and drawing tools and materials and they are just beginning to explore how to express themselves through creating works of art. So far, they have been creating artwork through basic exploration of tools and materials without thinking about why they are creating what they are. This lesson is designed to focus the student’s expression towards creating works of art that tell their viewer who they are on the inside. Students of this age range are already doing this naturally and this lesson is aimed at guiding their attention to the fact that one major function of art can be to explore their identity.
Essential Understandings:
- Artists create works of art that explore their personal identity
- Artists create works of art that tell the viewer about who the artist is on the inside.
- Artists can talk about the decisions they made while creating works of art.
- Artists use their hands to create works of art that explore what their hearts and minds look like.
- Students will be able to create works of art that express who they are on the inside.
- Students will be able to use watercolor painting and drawing skills to create self -portraits.
- Students will be able to create works of art that visually represent ideas.
- Students will be able to reflect on their works of art and who they are on the inside.
